It's hard to price cars on a whole so here's some examples.
mk5 golf diesel/e46 320d with an edc16 ecu start as low as £60 for a stage one, adding on £20 each for egr/dpf solutions.

Most cars after 2010 £170 for stage 1, egr & dpf solutions around £30 each along with stage 1. ADblue is extra. EGR & DPF only £120 per solution or £160 for both.

Will remapping damage my car?

The short answer is no. Although with everything there is risks but very minor. Cars usually come from factory with lots of compromises, for example price, emissions, warrenty, tax/insurance brackets, bad quality fuel in other countries. So usually the standard ECU data is made to fit in all of these points. Remapping unleashes more power by focusing more on Driveablity, Power and MPG. While still well within the capeability of your engine & engine parts.
